We've ate here before and have had decent (never really excellent) service. This time both the food and service were REALLY bad. Ten minutes to place a drink order, food prepared incorrectly, charged for food that we did not order but still came to the table, etc... Once my gift cards are all used up we will be done with Steak 'n Shake and won't look back.

Horrible service. Both times I've come here you wait 10+ minutes after sitting down before someone...anyone approaches your table for service. Eventually, an unpleasant server will approach. Today's greeting consisted of "I'm your server.. Can take your order whenever your ready." 20 minutes since we sat down... ten minutes since my order was placed... Can I have my drink please? I don't think I'll be returning.

Went into the resturant there were about 2 tables with people and about 6 dirty tables. After sitting there for 10 min one of the employees says as shes hunching over me " we only have one server today, its okay that you sat yourself but you have to tell your server where you are" she tossed menus on the table and walked away .. first of all i didnt see a single employee until i had one barking down my neck. We instantly got up and left as the "lady" glared at us from behind the counter. If i could rate no stars i would. If i could go back and punch that bitch in the face i would.

I'm telling you Ive tried tried Burgers with an Egg on it at almost every place that Ive had a burger. I tried it first here. And they keep me coming back. I dont know hat it is. If its how they cook them, when they add it to the burger or what. It doesnt even matter what burger its on, I tried the philly cheesesteak burger last time, dded an egg. It was AMAZING. Ive had the Taco Salad. It's great!. The 4 dollar menu cannot be beat! Where can you get two meals, and two shakes, for 15 bucks?? And freebie on your birthday. Sometimes it can get a little packed in the late hours or weekends, but for the items described above. Hey, its worth it.

It was the worst experience I've had in eating. The floors were dirty. Not just black from one day of grime, but days of uncleaned grime piled up into a disturbing level of black muck with piles of paper shreds, fries and cups under the tables. Our burgers took forever, then the order was wrong. When I checked out, the machine didn't print my receipt. Go to Johnny Rockets in the mall. It's a night and day difference. Better burgers, better service. And it's clean there.

Bad services. In drive thur I was asked to hold on before I order because the person was running and order outside. I waited. I guess the wait was too much for the car behind me so they pulled out of line then pulled in front of me. The person taking the orders had me hold again, why? Oh to take the order of the person who had pulled around me! Once I got to the window I asked the guy since when can we pull directly up to the window to place and order. I was told by him and management, that people can do that, pull to the window and place an order.

Went there tonight and my daughter tried winning a stuffed animal out of the claw game. The manager Tony saw she was upset that she didn't win so he actually played the game until he won it for her. That made our night. The shakes were great too.

Great Milkshakes and the food wasn't so bad either. The waiter even gave us some extra fries as well which was awesome. Being from out of the state I really enjoyed this place. The service was good as well. I'd recommend this place if you haven't been here before.

Headed straight to restroom to wash my hands. Their trash can was overflowing and the stench was bad. Got in line and after waiting for more than a few minutes behind the folks in front of me, was finally asked how many in my party. Waitress actually asked about drinks fairly quickly. I wanted to try what was marked as "new" on their menu: grilled cheese steakburger. When it finally did show up, I peeled back the bread (more like lifted up the bread because the cheese was Not grilled) to search for the steakburger. Do you recall the old advertisement "Where's the beef?" This was exactly that. The bread was barely toasted like youd normally have for a grilled sandwich. During this, I had asked for A1 sauce for my fries and the bottle I was given didn't even have a teaspoon left. Completely pitiful. Needless to say, I was not even remotely happy. I paid for the pop and left.

The bathroom here is so disgusting. I cannot believe a manager or even a employee would allow it to get this bad, small stall is clogged, and the large bathroom door will not shut, along with dirty paper towel everywhere. Food is good though..

You're stuffed from a delicious wedding banquet, leave the next morning for NYC, and you're girlfriend has been raving about this place since before you got together. Do you skip it? NO!! You simply take the abbreviated experience!! It's always hard to squeeze in everything you want when you're in a new place for only a couple days. If you play your cards right, however, you can still sample a little here and a little there. This is exactly what we did at Steak N Shake! I can't speak for their famous steak burgers, but I CAN say that they easily have some of the most delicious shakes and fries this side of the country. The shoestring fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy, while my cookies and cream shake had spot on consistency with whipped cream and a cherry on top. I can't wait to come back and sample the rest of their offerings!

Felt like one of the grimier locations I've visited, but we were greeted warmly, treated well and satisfied by our orders. Being starved at 11:30 am and not being able to check into the hotel for another 2 hours...we swooped in here for some burgers. The 3 of us all got order of 3 sliders and fries, with various toppings (too early for milkshakes). Everything came out quickly and was tasty enough. We didn't take advantage of this, but from 2am to 4am you can enjoy half priced milkshakes! Maybe next time :)

I was visiting Michigan(from CA) and my sister and brother-in-law and I were going to Great Lakes Mall. My sister suggested to first get some lunch at Steak'n Shake...she had mentioned that the food here was very good. I TOTALLY AGREE. The burgers are outstanding and so are the milkshakes. I got the burger with the egg in it...I only wish had ordered 2. I only wish the burgers were a little bit bigger. For the 3 of us, our bill came to about $16.00. Hopefully they will one day expand to CA and give IN&OUT some competition.

Located in the same area as Great Lakes Crossing mall. I drove almost 2 hours to eat here because I was craving it. Arrived at 11 pm. My friend and I stood, waiting to even be greeted for about ten mins. Staff was everywhere and when they walked by, we couldn't even get eye contact or a smile. We are both pretty easy going and both agreed it was ridiculous. Then after we were seated(without apologies), we watched other people get waited on who came in about 15 mins after...I watched two guys who came in ten minutes after us get seated, eat their meals and leave before anyone even came to our table. an hour later, we were still sitting with menus and no greeting from a server. Time to leave. Just as we were discussing leaving, the waitress came over and asked if we were ready to order. Are you kidding?! Still no apology for the hour wait. When we told her we had waited for an hour, and were leaving, she mumbled sorry and walked away, tripping over some booster seats...to which my usually mellow, now irritated girl friend says,"karma!!" Loud enough for her to hear. How disappointing. This is the worst service ever. Especially since the manager was also floating around. It was obvious they didn't really care. I guess the only decent time is at 3 am...which I've had great service then...but this last visit really was a let down.

I ordered the potebella mushroom hamburger to try. It's not the best thing I have ever eaten but it's actually not bad. This place is great! My kids loves the kids menu choices from hot dogs to mini hamburgers. They like all the wonderful shake flavours. If you have kids, this is the place for you!

Tonight was absolutely, inexcusably awful! My husband ordered seasoned fries and did not get them. We ordered oranges for our toddler and got fries. I ordered Chili 5-Way and it simply did not come! No explanation, no reassurance, nothing. 5 minutes later, another server brought it to me as if nothing was wrong with the wait. We then complained to the manager, which apparently means no more table service from a pissed off server. No refills! Which really bites when you are 9 months pregnant and poured hot sauce all over your spicy dinner. I could punch something right now.

A bad experience on every level starting with terrible service. Once the waitress finally made it to our table she never bothered to bring our drinks. Had to find someone to ask for the milkshake and coke that we ordered. Finally received the burgers and fries as we were close to walking out. This is a restaurant known for burgers and shakes so how is it that both were so awful? The food used to be good but that has changed and we will never return.

Very sweet little place. We went on a Saturday and they have a kids eat free promotion on Sarurday and Sundays, though there are exceptions to it. Staff was warm and welcoming from the get-go, even had a manager stopping around to chat. Burgers were great! Less impressed by fries. I liked the wide variety of kids meals and desserts. Wish I had been able to try the shakes! Really good prices too!

I have tried to like this place, but it keeps dissuading me. The fluorescent lighting and faux-50's decor don't do anything for me. The service is pretty inconsistent, and there seems to be pretty high turnover. I've mostly gone midnight and later (there aren't many late night eats in this non-college town) and the clientele consist mostly of overloud high schoolers. The food exists in that nebulous area between fast food and "sit down," and generally isn't worth the price. Their fries are the lame finger fries, but their titular shakes are pretty good (if that's what you're into). If you need a place to get quick, greasy food late at night go to the Rocket Burger on Baldwin instead (open until 3 or 4). If you're looking for quick, greasy food during the day go anywhere else.

I have tried at least a few times to eat here without any success. This place is clearly poorly managed. Twice now I have found pieces of plastic or glass in my shake, and the last time I decided to go and not order a shake but stick with a basic burger and soda. They were very understaffed and busy. I wasn't seated at all because the 2 teenage servers were clearly too busy running around confused. Then it took 20 minutes for one of them to finally come over and wait on me. I sat and waited, and looked around for another 30 minutes without getting the soda ordered. People who got sat before me still didn't have their drinks either, and the incompetent manager yelled and argued with the overworked server in front of everyone. I felt bad for the servers being treated so poorly, but decided it wasn't worth it to wait and wait without service. I left and will never come back here.

Pretty good at 3 AM, but somehow I always end up feeling gross after eating here. Like the burgers are a little too moist or something is off in some way, lol. The staff is nice, I'm glad it's open and available when needed.
